Cooperative Sarob jointly with the partners supports development of agriculture value chain.  Sarob cooperative specialists have many years of experience in the field of agriculture and we understand the dynamic nature of the agriculture value chain and aim to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of both private and public organizations.

Sustainable Value Chain Development through greater professionalization and organization among smallholder agricultural producers within viable agricultural value chains, will help cooperative Sarob to achieve the goal and objective of cooperative. The activities’ goal are to: improve food security in rural areas through the development of agricultural value chains, empower smallholder farmers to play a central role so that they can achieve maximum value added in their production and increase their income, support farmers and producers' to make the most of the value added to their produce through better market access.

Sustainable cotton value chain development

Startd from 2023 Cooperative implementing better cotton standard in Tajikistan. Better Cotton exists to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment it grows in, and better for the sector’s future, by developing Better Cotton as a sustainable mainstream commodity.

According to the Better cotton standard Sarob promotes Better Cotton chain of custody.  From the farmers who grow Better Cotton to the companies that source it, the Better Cotton Chain of Custody (CoC) is the documentation and evidence of Better Cotton as it moves through the supply chain, connecting Better Cotton supply with demand.  

With increasing demand in local and international markets, the interest by all value chain actors (farmers, ginneries, traders, textile companies) is increasing for production and processing of better cotton.  For Cooperative Sarob the Better Cotton value chain development means increasing domestic value addition and access to new markets. 

For improving the better cotton market Sarob aim is to increase the Better cotton sale volume through strengthening of cooperation with local ginneries, textile companies and traders to promote the marketing of Better cotton.  For that   cooperative train and advise the ginneries and textile companies on the better cotton chain of custody rules which is developed by Better Cotton and do monitoring of cotton uptake at ginnery level for the traceability of Better  cotton. There is a growing demand for making Better Cotton traceable, as stakeholders worldwide seek more clarity over the social and environmental challenges associated with the cotton supply chain, and policymakers require businesses to demonstrate greater transparency. This is why Better Cotton introduced a traceability solution. In 2024 season Sarob with the Better Cotton introducing new traceability standard among the Better Cotton suppliers in Tajikistan. 

In 2023 season, 31 ginneries and 4 textile companies from Tajikistan are registered in Better Cotton.  

Fruits and Vegetable Value chain development

Sarob cooperative, with the support of development organization implementing various activities on value chain development of fruits and vegetable.  Fruit and vegetable crops have the potential to generate more income for small farmers compared to traditional crops.  The activities aim is to increase incomes of smallholder farmers with a focus on farmers’ enhanced access to agricultural technologies, minimized postharvest losses, and improved market linkages.

For promoting value chain development Sarob conducting value chain analyzing. Analyzing a value chain allows in the specific value chain identify its challenges, weakness, and strengths – can help to identify new income-generating opportunities.

Based on the result of value chain analyze Sarob implement field and capacity building activities on production, collection and packaging of specific crops. From these capacity building activities farmers learned how to properly grow, collect and pack agricultural products related to the mentioned chains.  Sarob is acting as an information and knowledge broker.  Sarob help farmers to understand the benefits of upgrading their involvement in the value chain, pass information about effective and innovative ways to be involved in value chains, advertise marketing opportunities or contract opportunities that could help small-scale farmers.
