Irrigation is very important to productive agriculture, accounting for 20% of all farmland and 40% of all production worldwide. Efficient irrigation systems use efficient irrigation technologies and methods, and also minimize the amount of unnecessary water use. As a result, farms that irrigate efficiently will not only reduce their operating costs but will also reduce the use of water resources that are increasingly scarce.
The cooperative Sarob implementing projects in the field of irrigation and water resources management as a local partner in two projects implemented by Helvetas funded by SDC.
WAPRO -Water Productivity project – Multiple stakeholders join forces to improve water productivity Sarob implemented project from 2016 and till 2022. Cooperative Sarob goals and objectives in the frame of project was increasing farmer incomes and improving water productivity for farmers for Better cotton production (BCI) through participatory local water management schemes and associated regulatory and market mechanisms in cotton-growing areas of Sughd region
National Project Water Resources Management (NURM) - implementation of integrated water resources management in the Tajik part of the Syrdarya basin. Cooperative Sarob started implementation of project from 2018 and continue till now. The overall goal of the project is to improve the standard of living of the population in rural areas through integrated water resources management
The objectives of the cooperative Sarob in the frame of the project is creation of demonstration plots and conducting practical training on water efficiency and productivity for target farms, WUAs, groups of WUAs, in the Aksu and Khojabakirgan irrigation systems.

Achieved results
Result of data collection, monitoring and assessment from target farmers is
WAPRO
- improving the knowledge of 3,200 farmers through the training, field days and consultations, and changing the way of thinking and behavior of farmers in relation to growing crops, especially cotton, and the use of water.
- the average yield of farmers is 15-17% higher than the traditional farmers and water savings is more than 30%.
NWRM
- improving the knowledge of 4,200 farmers through the training, field days and consultations around the established demonstration plots
- saved irrigation water consumption, and on average is 34.4% in the level of demonstration farmers and
- increasing the yield is on average 26.5%
- the savings in water bills are on average 42.42 somoni in relation to control plots
